Assignment: We had to create a presentation to explain our innovative tool or idea.

Reflection: My innovative tool or idea was a way to use your a smart phone to quickly check for mastery in a secondary classroom. Elementary teachers do a better job of checking for mastery in their classroom.  The excuse that many secondary teacher give for not checking for mastery is that it takes too long because of the larger number of students they serve each day. For this tool, I used a Google form to help a secondary teacher identify and evaluate mastery in measurement. This assignment changed the way I looked at teaching. During this class, I used this tool to evaluate my eighth grade student in their ability to find the density of a cube. This tool allowed me to find out that only one of my 135 students could find the density of a cube! This rocked my world and if I did not leave the classroom after this school year, I was going to stop taking grades and use standards based learning instead.
