Assignment: The assignment was to pick educational technology topic to research. The proposal need to only contain the first four components: the abstract, introduction, literature review, and methodology.
Reflection: Being a science teacher for sixteen years, I could not remember the last time I had to write a such a detailed research paper. This course was my only face-to-face class in the program and I really enjoyed the professor. He really challenged us to look at data in an analytically way and make sure that our statements were backed by both personal data and credible primary sources. My research proposal was on the effectiveness of interactive whiteboards (IWB) on student achievement. This idea was derived from seeing some much money being spent to put an IWB in every classroom in my district. My preliminary research showed that IWB do not increase student achievement as much as the pedagogy used by an effective teacher. From this research, I have proposed and piloted a large flat screen TV and tablet technology package for our secondary classrooms in our district. The price of this package is 1/3 that of the IWB package and it allows the teacher to move away from the front of the classroom and interact with their students better.
